Cotswold Hospital Radio began broadcasting to Cheltenham Hospital Radio in 1974, moving to include Gloucestershire Royal, St. Paul’s and Gloucester Maternity Hospitals in 1976.

Run by volunteers, the Radio Station is there to serve the patients. Volunteers visit the Hospitals to ensure the radio equipment is working, and to explain to the patients how to use it. They also chat with them about music and radio in general, so they can tailor their programming to cover the sorts of things that patients wish to hear.

Their feature programme is the Patients Postbag, a request programme, where patients can hear their favourite piece of music, poetry, literature or even theatre during the evening slot.

The radio broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, keeping the volunteers pretty busy.

Charmian is presenting a cheque from the League, to Richard Watling, one of the dedicated volunteers from the station.
